Margaritaville St Thomas

For a relaxing vacation, I chose Margaritaville resort by Wyndham in St Thomas. It’s the perfect getaway for the Caribbean and a nice and relaxing spot with sun and sand and great food. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was tasty, the pool was clean, and the smells of the beach and atmosphere were exactly what I needed. Check out the resort here.

Presidential Suite, Please

Margaritaville in St Thomas offers lots of different options for accommodations. From Studios to 3 bedrooms. They also have ocean-side vs hill-side. The ocean-side features 7 buildings that are two stories (walk-up, no elevators). They surround the pool area, beach, bar, and restaurant. The hill-side features taller buildings that are literally on a hill… so some may be 100 feet above sea-level… or 200 or 300. There is a Margaritaville Hillside Pool and Bar at the top of the property with a pool, bar, and beautiful views.

Margaritaville Restaurant and Bar

Most people thing that there’s a woman to blame… Wait… no, they think Margaritaville is a bar featuring frozen concoctions. In some ways it is, but it’s also a restaurant decorated with pictures of the iconic Jimmy Buffet. And don’t worry, they have plenty of shakers of salt. The salt also contains grains of rice to keep it from getting moisture and clumping – quite inventive.

You’ll find plenty of delicious treats from burgers to fish & chips. Key lime pie and rum cake are available for dessert. There is a bar, so a full menu of drinks is available. Also note, they have soda and lemonade, but like most places on the island, no free refills. So even though I don’t drink, I can rack up a tab with the best of them. Getting to Margaritaville

The island offers lots of various modes of transportation, but don’t expect them to be cheap or easy. First of all, understand that there is no uber or Lyft… so scratch that. You’ll find car services that you can book to meet you at the airport and take you to the resort. Check out the Travel Resources page find links to options like GetYourGuide and Viator. These might be some of the easiest options for arranging travel. Also, if you meet someone that does a great job of transporting you somewhere, get there number and reach out during your stay to have them give you a ride. Just understand, it’s not cheap.

You can also choose to rent a car. Beware of a couple of things. First, it’s a small island, so you aren’t going far, but having a car gives you the freedom to come and go as you want. The resort has parking, but not everywhere you want to go for dinner will. So be prepared for those unpleasantries. Also, there are roads to take you places… and I say roads in the loosest sense of the word. They aren’t gravel, they are somehow paved, but that’s where the compliments end.

I rented a standard car and was upgraded to a compact SUV. I should have gotten a full-size JEEP because some of the hills and turns on these paved roads were impossible. Also, you’ll be driving a car that came from the US, but you’ll drive on the left side of the road. It’s a challenge. And this islands is ALL hills, so expect a lot of scary twists and turns… and even hair-pin turns. And remember, you are on an island, so you won’t be putting a lot of miles on the car, but gas isn’t going to be cheap. Think California prices… and then some.

Fun and Games

The Margaritaville Resort also has great options for entertainment. From organized events like BINGO and Karaoke nights… to just playing cornhole. They also have an area with a fitness center and small coffee shop. Outside they even have covered areas with a big chess board for relaxing and having a game of chess… or watching the iguanas run around the board.
