Pepe’s Tacos Puerto Vallarta
My first trip to Mexico was going to be all about food. After arriving in Puerto Vallarta, I couldn’t wait to start enjoying some amazing food the city had to offer. My first stop was the famous Pepe’s Tacos on C. Honduras Street. It was a hot day in the summer, but only 5 blocks from my resort. Sure, it’s a typical restaurant in Mexico with open air spaces and no AC, but the food did not disappoint.
Pepe’s Tacos Al Pastor
Pepe’s Tacos is famous for their vertical split al pastor tacos. Think of a typical rotisserie, but up and down instead of side-to-side. They place charcoal at the back of the unit and the meat slowly spins to face the heat and slowly cooks throughout the day. This meat is then shaved off as food is ordered. A pineapple sits atop the spit and a small chunk goes with each taco. It might be hot out and they have no AC, but this experience is totally worth it.
Amazingly Delicious
For my first trip to Pepe’s Tacos, I definitely wanted to enjoy their al pastor experience. I went for a corn tortilla and a flour tortilla. They also had a Volcano Taco. It contained cheese and was more fried like a tostada. First of all, the flavor of the meat was amazing. The smell of the cooking was awesome. The ability to stand on the street and watch the experience like in the video above was pretty neat. Also, they have a nice sit-down area inside. Each table gets a collection of 4 sauces that range from mild/tasty… to ultra spicy. The food is so tasty, you don’t need any extra salsa, just pick up the taco and enjoy.
Awesome food and a special thanks!
I love to post and review places on Google Maps. Pepe’s Tacos is no exception. Afterwards I made a post about my experience. It was awesome to get a nice message back on the same day. This kind of place has that welcoming experience that makes you feel like family. Check out my review and their response on Google Maps. When hungry for real Mexican food, make sure to book a trip to Puerto Vallarta and experience this for yourself! And when you go to Pepe’s Tacos, tell them Matthew sent you!
